Pumped Bonded-Bead Cavity Wall Insulation Across the Irish Midlands (2026 Prices & SEAI Grants)

Most Midlands bungalows and two-storey estates built between 1975 and 2010 have an empty or partially filled 90mm–110mm cavity. Injecting NSAI Agrément certified graphite polystyrene bead cuts wall heat loss by up to 65% in a single day.

How Bonded-Bead Cavity Pumping Works

Unlike old loose white bead or urea-formaldehyde foam from the 1980s, modern silver-grey expanded polystyrene (EPS) graphite bead has a thermal conductivity of 0.033 W/mK and is coated with a water-based bonding resin as it enters the wall:

  • Borescope Inspection First: Before drilling injection patterns, the surveyor drills a 12mm test hole and inserts an endoscopic camera to confirm a clean minimum 50mm cavity width and check wall ties and mortar snots.
  • Combustion & Room Vent Sleeving: Every room background vent and boiler/stove air vent is sleeved in rigid PVC ducting and tested before and after injection so bead can never block ventilation.
  • Breathable & Moisture-Proof: Once cured (within hours), the bonded bead matrix locks together so it never spills out if you later replace a window or door, while remaining free-draining against driving rain.

Frequently Asked Questions: Cavity Wall Insulation

Can cavity wall bead cause damp in Midlands rainfall?

No — NSAI Agrément certified bonded polystyrene bead is non-absorbent and maintains tiny air pockets between beads that allow any moisture crossing the outer leaf to drain straight down to the damp-proof course rather than tracking across to the inner block.

What if my walls already have thin 40mm Polystyrene board from when the house was built?

If there is still at least 50mm of clear uninsulated air gap alongside the original partial-fill board, the remaining cavity can be topped up with bonded bead after a borescope check.

Will the drill holes show on my painted render or brick?

Holes are drilled at mortar joints (on brick) or neatly through render at 1.2m centres and filled with colour-matched mortar or flexible exterior filler on the same day.
